Mido and Emile Heskey Pose with the Wigan Athletic and Aston Villa Shirts

Posted by 5nil on January 23, 2009

Wigan Athletic have taken sometimes Egypt striker Mido on loan from Middlesbrough until the end of the season. The move allows Mido to line up as part of an Egyptian double act with compatriot Amr Zaki. He replaces new Aston Villa signing Emile Heskey in the Wigan striker pool.

Wigan boss Steve Bruce, who has now lost two of his best players after the sale of Wilson Palacios to Spurs, said he was confident Mido could plug the gap left by Emile Heskey.

Meanwhile, Villa manager Martin O’Neill is “absolutely thrilled” to be linking up with Emile Heskey again.

O’Neill famously worked with Heskey at Leicester City in a glorious spell that saw the Foxes triumph in two League Cup finals.

O’Neill speaks highly of Heskey’s influence back then but believes Villa are signing a player who has undoubtedly improved with age.

TORONTO –Toronto FC unveiled new signing Dwayne De Rosario during a press conference at Air Canada Center yesterday. The Canadian international was signed to a four-year contract after being acquired in a trade with the Houston Dynamo for defender Julius James and an allocation fee.

Of the move to TFC, the Scarborough, Ontario native said “It’s a dream come true. I think that’s the goal of every kid growing up aspiring to be a professional soccer player — you want to play in your hometown and carry on your career playing professionally at home. Now all the kids growing up have something to aspire to […] and that’s Toronto FC.

“I said I wanted to play for TFC one day and that day has come. It’s a proud moment for me not only as a player in MLS but as a Canadian. Hopefully this whole thing will help not just TFC but the national team as well.”

Here’s a link to a video of De Rosario’s Toronto FC official presentation.
