Sport Club Corinthians Paulista is one of the most successful football team in Brazilian history, having won the first edition of the FIFA Club World Championship, the Brazilian Série A four times, the Brazilian Cup twice, the São Paulo State Championship 26 times, amongst other honours.

They’ve been in the news lately as Brazilian legend Ronaldo recently signed for them and has recaptured some of the form that made him a star in the 90s.

This weekend, Corinthians launched their 2009/10 Nike home and away kits. The white home kits were worn for the first time during yesterday’s Campeonato Brasileiro loss to Internacional. Here’s a look at the new kits from a photo shoot held late last week.

The home kit is eerily reminiscent of the Nike Korea 2008/09 home jersey. We’ve posted a picture it it below for your viewing pleasure.

Brazilian legend Ronaldo (also known as “O Fenômeno”) participated in his first competitive game for 13 months last night. The 32-year-old made his debut for new club Corinthians as a 68th-minute substitute in a 2-0 win over Itumbiara. However, the injury prone striker was left with a badly bruised and swollen right eye after being struck by a microphone during post-match media scrum.

Here’s a close up look at Ronaldo on the field during last night’s match.  Wearing his famous number 9 shirt, Ronaldo had only a few touches of the ball.

Ronaldo’s last game for a Brazilian club was for Cruzeiro in 1994. Since then he has played for European giants PSV Eindhoven, FC Barcelona,  Inter Milan, Real Madrid and AC Milan.

An estimated 6,000 fans attended Ronaldo’s official presentation earlier today. The 32-year-old, who has not played since suffering a serious knee injury in February, was welcomed with fireworks and streamers when he walked on to the training pitch at Brazil’s second most popular club.

In case you haven’t heard oft-injured Brazilian legend Ronaldo (also know as Il Fenomeno), 32, has agreeed to join Corinthians Paulista on a one year contract. Corinthians Paulista are one of Brazil’s biggest clubs and have just won promotion back to the top flight after one season in Serie B.

Ronaldo had been widely expected to sign for Flamengo, where he had been training for the last four months, and his move to Corinthians upset supporters of the Rio de Janeiro-based club, who burned photos of him after hearing the news.

Without much delay, Corinthians have launched hero club 2008/09 shirts bearing the name of their new signature player. Here’s the first set of images of these kits.

These are based on a 2008-09 Nike template that have not been seen yet and are definitely based on 80s jersey styles.  The stipes, V-nect and tight fit should make a good combination on the field. Hopefully, we’ll see Corinthians back in the top flight soon after last year’s relegation to the Campeonato Brasileiro Série B. They’re currently first in the table.
