Clube de Regatas do Flamengo is a Brazilian multisport club located in Rio de Janeiro.
Flamengo’s football/soccer team is one of the most popular club in Brazil with an estimated 35 million supporters and placed 9th in the FIFA Clubs of the 20th Century ranking.
Other nicknames used by fans for Flamengo include “Fla”, “Mengo”, and “Mengão” (which means Big Mengo), as well descriptions of the club’s official colors, rubro-negro, which translates to “the scarlet-blacks” or “the scarlet and black.”
After several years of having Nike as their kit provider, Flamengo have switched to Brazilian sportswear company Olympikus for the 09/10 season. The 2009/10 Flamengo Olympikus home, away and goalkeeper kits were presented to the public yesterday with much fanfare. Marquee club player Adriano and others served as models for the new kits.
Mercurial Brazilian striker Adriano has signed with Brazilian giants Flamengo. The club unveiled the sometimes Brazilian national team hitman at a press conference yesterday evening.
The 27-year-old returns to the Rio de Janeiro side where he made his playing debut in 2000. A year later he moved to Italy’s Inter Milan. Adriano went on to score 74 goals for Inter before having his contract terminated last month.
Adraino’s contract with Flamengo run until May 30, 2010 and is subsidized by an unnamed sponsor.
The player claimed that being with his family in Brazil was the best solution for his recent, well-publicized personal problems.
Brazil coach Dunga has named his following squad for the COMNEBOL FIFA World Cup 2010 qualifiers away to Ecuador on March 29 and at home to Peru on April 1. It is as follows:

Inter Milan’s title challenge continued as substitute Mario Balotelli scored the winner with a free kick against Serie A strugglers Bologna on Saturday.
Intel stalwart Esteban Cambiasso had put the champions ahead earlier. However, Uruguayan defender Miguel Britos equalised with his first goal forBologna when the powered in a header from a corner.
Italian Serie A leaders Inter Milan held on for a victory which took them 11 clear of third-placed Milan.
Adriano dubiously used an arm to convert Maicon’s cross on 28 minutes. Dejan Stankovic then capitalized on an Inter defe3nsive blunder three minutes before the break to put the champions 2-0 up.
Alexandre Pato tapped in for Milan on 70 minutes to set up a feverishfinish but the Rossoneri could not find the equalizer despite their best efforts with Filippo Inzaghi having a spectacular volley ruled out for offside.
Wavering stars Ronaldinho and Adriano have been recalled by Brazil coach Dunga for next month’s friendly against Italy in London.
Brazil face FIFA World Cup 2006 winner Italians at Arsenal’s Emirates stadium on Feb. 10. This is the first meeting between the two sides since a 3-3 draw in France in 1997.

Jose Mourinho’s Inter Milan went into Wednesday’s Coppa Italia quarter final against AS Roma game in poor form. They are without a win in Serie A this calendar year and were thrashed 3-1 at Atalanta on Sunday. However, they moved a step closer to their fifth Italian Cup final appearance in a row with a 2-1 quarter-final victory over AS Roma at the San Siro courtesy of goals from Adriano and Zlatan Ibrahimovic. Rodrigo Taddei scored Roma’s sole goal of the match.
Roma and Inter had contested the last four Coppa Italia finals, winning two each.
Roma, who had won 1-0 on Sunday, were at virtual full strength, although of course Francesco Totti was still missing. Mirko Vucinic started as the lone frontman, supported by Simone Perrotta and the weekend’s hero Julio Baptista.
La Liga club Sevilla FC has officially presented their Joma home, away, third and UEFA cup 2008/09 kits to the public. The presentation took place yesterday at the club’s headquarters in Sevilla, Spain. While the focus of the presentation were the UEFA cup kits, all of the team’s playing strips for this season’s La Liga campaign were also on display.

APPIANO GENTILE – Captain Javier Zanetti, Marco Materazzi, Adriano, Julio Cesar, Maicon and Amantino Mancini were the Nerazzurri models for today’s presentation of the new Nike kits for the 2008/09 season.
Nike presented a personalised shirt to José Mourinho, who commented: “The kit is beautiful, but it will only be beautiful if it’s a winner. It’s up to us now. We have made a strong start to our work and we will continue to do so in Brunico in the coming days.
“We play our first two friendlies there but I don’t like the term ‘friendlies’ very much. These are two matches we want to win to build a winning season.”
